How Do Injectables Work?

Almost everybody struggles with their appearance at some point in their lives. In fact, according to recent studies, around 80% of women in the US are unhappy with the way they look. Many of the issues, such as wrinkling and sagging skin, are related to the aging process. Fortunately, we offer a wide range of injectables at WellSkin Med Spa in Dallas, TX, and can help you look fresher and more youthful.

This type of treatment is based on injecting certain substances in your face, hands, or other parts of your body to reduce the negative effects of aging. Fillers can plump up your features, smooth your skin, increase the size of your lips, and remove any uneven features. Today, let’s have a closer look at how cosmetic injections work and who could benefit from this kind of treatment.

How Do Injectables Work?

Over-the-counter creams and ointments that address aging are often not very effective, and they only present a surface-level solution. At our clinic, we take things a step further and deliver substances that help you look younger right into your skin. There are many options, and the one you choose depends on the nature of your cosmetic complaint and your preferences.

For instance, many people find substances based on Botulinum toxin effective. However, others prefer to use fillers based on hyaluronic acid, which can sometimes last longer. Your provider will speak to you about your issues and goals, then offer you some options. In some cases, it is a good idea to combine treatments, since each one addresses a different problem.

Botox and Dysport

Botox is the most popular and well-known injection-based treatment in the world. It makes use of Botulinum toxin, which can reduce the activity in your facial muscles and therefore allow them to appear smoother. Most commonly, we use this method on your frown lines or forehead creases, but it can also be applied to other types of facial wrinkles. In fact, any lines caused by the repeated movement of your muscles can be addressed with Botox.

Dysport is a very similar treatment to Botox since it is based on the same substance. However, it is a more diluted form, so it spreads around your face more quickly. If you’re looking to have very large surface areas treated, we might decide that Dysport is a more appropriate solution, but if you’re looking to go into detail, the more potent Botox will be your injectables of choice.

Juvederm

Botulinum toxin-based injections are great for many people, but there are other options that can be equally powerful and more long-lasting. Some of our patients prefer to go with hyaluronic acid fillers because they use a substance that is already present in your body. Thus, it is very unlikely that you will have a side-effect or allergic reaction.

The Juvederm brand is well-known for its various options, which include specific fillers for your lips and formulas that increase the volume of your cheeks or address very fine wrinkles. Since there are so many options, it’s easy to find something that works well for your features. Some of the Juvederm products are amazingly long-lasting, and you might not have to come back to the clinic for 1-2 years.

Restylane

Restylane is also a hyaluronic acid filler, but it has a more granular and cohesive texture than Juvederm. As such, it is very moldable, so your practitioner can more easily create your desired facial shape with this product. If certain areas of your face, such as your cheeks, have sunken and become hollow, this could be the perfect treatment for you. In some cases, we also use this filler for hand rejuvenation.

Sculptra

Unlike many of the other injectables, Sculptra aims to plump up and change the shape of the whole face. It is less specific and more all-encompassing than some of the other options. The substance used, poly-L-lactic acid, stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, so it will be able to produce a larger number of new, healthy cells. This treatment is extremely long-lasting and might not have to be repeated for around 48 months.

Kybella

Kybella is used for a very particular purpose, namely to eliminate a stubborn double chin. Although fatty tissue under the chin is often associated with the patient being overweight, this isn’t always the case. Even if you’ve already achieved your target weight, you might still be struggling with a double chin. In such cases, you can come to the clinic and have Kybella injections, which are based on a substance called deoxycholic acid.

Over a few weeks, they will melt away the fat cells under your chin and allow you to achieve your perfect profile once again. Since these cells can’t re-grow once you’re past puberty, Kybella treatment is considered permanent, and you won’t have to repeat it in the future unless your weight fluctuates drastically.

What Will Your Treatment Be Like?

While there are many fillers with various purposes, all our treatments are minimally invasive, and the process is similar. You will first discuss your cosmetic concerns and aims with a specialist, who will help you decide which option to choose. They will make sure that you are eligible for treatment and are not suffering from a significant health issue that could cause safety issues.

When you arrive at our clinic for your first treatment, your practitioner first marks the spots where the injections will happen, then applies some numbing cream to the area. Some fillers already contain lidocaine, but we will still numb the surface-level tissue to make treatment more pleasant. Once this cream has taken effect, your provider can inject the chosen filler. The whole appointment shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.

Preparation and Recovery

All dermal fillers are minimally invasive, which means that we won’t cut open your skin or operate on you. For this reason, there isn’t much you have to do to prepare. We always instruct our patients to stop taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements a few days before treatment. Additionally, it’s advisable that you stop smoking, as nicotine can interfere with the healing process.

After your treatment, you can go home straight away. The first time you come to the clinic, it might be a good idea to take the rest of your day off. However, many of our returning patients schedule their appointments during their lunch break and go straight back to work afterward.

Rejuvenate Your Face and Body Today

Because of the amazing advances in medicine, we are living longer and healthier lives. But aging takes a toll on all of us, and it’s easy to get frustrated by the sagging skin and wrinkles that start to appear. At our clinic, you can benefit from a variety of cosmetic treatments that help you retain your fresh, youthful features. One of the most effective ways of addressing aging is the use of injectables such as Botox and Juvederm.

These simple, minimally invasive treatments involve a short visit to the clinic every few months or years. Because you won’t need to stay overnight at a hospital or undergo general anesthesia, they are often much cheaper, faster, and more accessible than surgery.
